My Why Behind Dive Like a Girl NZ
Share
Hello and welcome, kick-ass ocean Wahine!
My name is Britney and I am the founder of Dive Like a Girl NZ. I started this passion project after a lifelong chain of events that I wish to share with you, to put a face and story behind the name, which you may relate to, feel inspired to take action yourself, or simply just want to come along to one of our events and meet us!

Growing up along the Tutukaka Coast of New Zealand instilled a deep connection with our Moana in me; spending any time that I could in, on, or near the ocean, whether it be diving, surfing, wakeboarding, fishing or hanging out with friends and family at the beach- you just couldn't drag me away from it! Not so surprisingly to everyone, I proceeded to Waikato and Auckland University to achieve my dream of becoming a marine scientist, so that I could basically continue to spend the maximum amount of time I could with my true love; our amazing underwater world.

I used my skillset to volunteer and work with ocean organisations in New Zealand and around the World; and became a conservation divemaster. Along my journey I started to think about how I could further utilise my passion for the ocean to make an impact. It was probably one too many sunny days without any other ocean loving Wahine, to enjoy it with me- so Dive Like a Girl NZ was born!

It is safe to say I haven't missed out on a sunny day since! Dive Like a Girl NZ flourished through a shared frustration of being unable to find Women to go out with, a lack of female representation in the industry, and a love for all things ocean. I am pleased to say that our little community continues to grow a support network, host fun ocean events and dives across the whole of New Zealand (a big shout out to our volunteer ambassadors)!
I am so proud of the incredible progress we've made together, from our dive and snorkel meet-ups to our ocean conservation awareness events, we are making waves and inspiring others to join us. Our community is a testament to the power of Women empowering Women, and I'd like to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this community. Your enthusiasm, expertise, and camaraderie are what makes our group so special!
I look forward to continuing to explore, learn, and support one another in this big blue world x
Hope to SEA you out there soon!
